Protection At What Cost?
Every phone case is equivalent to 20 plastic bags.
Over 1 billion are sold worldwide each year, and more than 99% end up as waste.

We’re doing something about it.
In 2013, we started with materials science.
Since then, we've continuously redefined drop protection, leading to 2026, when we earned the GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ title of highest drop of a mobile phone in a phone case (natural landforms)
Protection got more complex. So did the materials.
We protected phones. Recovery got harder.
Is that really protection?
Under 1% Recyclable
Phone cases:
Dead last.
Solar, automotive, even electronics
have made real progress in recycling.
Phone cases aren't hard to recycle—yet almost no one does. Fewer than 1% are recycled today.

So we chose a different path.
Every choice bends this curve.
Plastic's future isn't decided yet.
OECD projections show the curve can still be rewritten.
We chose the lowest path.
Global plastic use: where we're headed
Without action, global plastic use will nearly triple by 2060. But strong policy and circularity can flatten this curve—even as demand grows.
Source: OECD (2022), Global Plastics Outlook: Policy Scenarios to 2060, OECD Publishing, Paris. Historical data from Our World in Data. "Recycled content, less virgin plastic" corresponds to OECD's official "Global Ambition" scenario. "Higher circularity + recycled content + less virgin plastic" is an illustrative extension beyond that baseline — global demand will keep growing with population and economic growth, but circularity can displace an increasing share of virgin plastic production over time. This extended pathway is not an official OECD forecast.
How We Do It
From Belief to Action
We rethought phone case protection from the ground up:
rigorous testing, material recovery, and a case collection system.

RHINO Standard
Standards
that hold up.
From in-house testing to independent SGS and TÜV assessments, to a GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ title—each backed by evidence.

Mono-Material Design
One material.
Designed for recyclability.
Mixed materials can complicate recycling.
Case after case, we use a mono-material approach to support recovery and recyclability.

Let's Talk About It
Do you really know the case you touch 100 times a day?
You're careful choosing a case.
Good looks, good grip, solid drop protection,
the right price.
But what about material safety and environmental claims?
Maybe it's time to ask.
Don't just take our word for it.
Copy any answer and check it against Google, ChatGPT, or anything else you trust. If it can't be verified, it's not worth believing.
RHINOSHIELD phone cases undergo independent SGS and TÜV testing. From material selection to R&D and production, we apply controls throughout the process. BPA, BPF, BPS and PFAS: Not Detected. The lab results speak for themselves.
Read the RHINO STORIES Research Notes →Recycled content is only part of the story. How a case is designed also matters for what happens next. RHINOSHIELD uses a mono-material approach and modular design to support material recovery and recyclability, reducing the complexity of separating mixed materials and components at end of use. Designed with its next use in mind.
Read the RHINO STORIES Research Notes →Not with RHINOSHIELD SolidX. Applicable models use 100% recycled plastic from recovered materials and contain ≥91% recycled content in the finished product, validated under UL ECVP 2809-2. Beyond recycled content, our in-house material lab tests strength, drop and durability performance, including material tested through six recycling cycles.
Environmental claims shouldn’t rest on ad copy—they should rest on evidence. Applicable SolidX models contain ≥91% recycled content, independently validated under UL ECVP 2809-2. Clear, traceable evidence that stands up to scrutiny.
